Lessons From The Stone Age!

So, you think that cavemen were stupid right? After all, what could this primitive species of man possibly know about diet? They did not think about nutrition or calories, nor did they think about optimal intake, fat levels, obesity, dieting and so on. However, and I am sorry if this hurts your ego, our cavemen did know some things better than many of us do nowadays. They knew how to hunt mammoths and also how to keep constantly fit! They did these things without modern amenities of our life, such as libraries and the internet. Their instinct was quite sufficient a guide.

Let's take a look at the practices of our forefathers and see which parts of their menu we can make a part of our own weight reducing diet to lose that body fat.

As you may expect, cavemen were only able to eat what they hunted for or found randomly in nature. Don't worry, you need not do this (if you don't want to) but you may at least want to give it a thought. Why not implement their methods in a civilized way? If you find yourself eating something that your fellow caveman (we might call him 'citizen' nowadays) could not have come across in nature, in all honesty, you should stay away from it. For instance, a dish of vegetables or fruit is perfect, but as soon as you add a loaf of bread or some horrible processed food your fellow citizen disapproves and so does your diet.

Drinking was the same as eating - you had to rely on natural sources. For centuries, if not millennia, water was the only option on offer. If you look for a magic pill to your health problems, water comes fairly near to it. H2O is a great weight reducing agent! We would not have to endure common problems such as dehydration and all the negative side effects (headaches, constipation, hunger, digestive discomfort) if only we imitated our cavemen and drank more water. Cavemen knew why they drank half of their bodyweight in ounces of water each day (i.e. 200 lbs should drink 100 ounces). You should too.

Cavemen were particularly renowned for their active lifestyle! This doesn't necessarily sound appealing but it would do a great deal of good to our health if we moved more. Contrast his daily routine with ours and you get the point. While he is busy running around we sit staring into the screen. While he chases the mammoths we come home (having sat in a car) and lie on a sofa, doing nothing. Move that body! No worries, by no means should you subject yourself to formal exercise. Just take the stairs instead of the elevator, perhaps go for a jog once a week or simply walk around your neighbourhood. Just avoid being inactive all day long. You don't have to catch up with the caveman but your body would appreciate at least some effort on your part.

Just keep the caveman on your mind as an occasional inspiration. When you are presented with a dish, ask yourself if you could find the ingredients in the wild thousands of years ago. If the answer is no, politely decline and make whatever excuse to your host you want. Look for something that is more natural. Cavemen were not that stupid after all!
