How DJ Lighting Is Making a Big Leap

Let's face it- we've come quite a long way since the dawn of the disco era in the 1970's. Mirrored balls and strobe lights have given way to fantastic multi-colored laser displays, electroluminescent wire, and color-changing LEDs. Just a few years ago these types of DJ lighting displays would have cost a fortune, but in the high tech computerized age we live in now it is possible for anyone to get their hands on these kinds of technologies.

Motorized laser arrays and DJ lasers work by bouncing the laser light from tiny mirrors mounted onto small vibrating motors. This technique creates a scanning effect which looks brilliant especially when projected through atmospheric smoke or fog. It is also possible to create a "tunneling" effect using this method that can be equally stunning when combined with a fog machine. Remember to carefully select a spot above the level of your audience to mount this type of display because DJ lasers can be very dangerous if they are accidentally shined into anyone's eyes.

Another new type of DJ lighting is electroluminescent (EL) panels and wire. These are basically phosphorous chemicals that are embedded between conductive layers that emit light when electricity is applied. The great thing about EL panels and wire is that they produce no heat and are very flexible allowing you to use them in many different applications. You may have seen some people using EL wire in clothing to produce a Tron-like effect; this is easily incorporated by either sewing or gluing the wire to whatever material you would like. You may like to wrap EL wire around your audio equipment or speakers for an added futuristic effect or you can even obtain animated multi-color EL panels for background lighting effects.

Multi-colored Light Emitting Diode (LED) panels and LED rope lights are a very cost-effective lighting solution and are great for adding a nice touch to your setup. LED panels can create a spectacular synchronization effect when combined with a lighting mixer or computer software timed with your music or even controlled on the fly. LED rope lights can also add an amazing effect and many people are using them for all different types of applications from Christmas decorations to lighting the living room or even at the bar. By using all of these technologies combined you will have a professional light show that your audience will never forget.

DJ Lighting and DJ Lasers are two new technologies of the 21st century that have increased dramatically due to advances in various technological fields. Read more about new technologies in our blog.
